With the recently signed memorandum of understanding between the Fiji Police Force and the Online Safety Commission, the Commission was able to join a law enforcement training held earlier this month in Suva, Fiji.
This was the first ever technology facilitated training coordinated by Cyber Safety Pasifika. In previous years this type of training took place face to face; however, due to the impact of the covid-19 pandemic technology was not only the topic of the seminar but also the form of delivery.
The one day seminar was officially opened by Fiji Police Force Director SSP Serupepeli Neiko. And it brought a lot insight to the safety tools that are available for Facebook users, especially tools available to law enforcement for a better online experience on the platform for everyone. The enlightening presentations by Facebook’s Safety and Policy representatives informed the participants of the scope of resources readily available to Facebook users.
The Commission gained a lot of perspective in terms of its own mandate to promote online safety for all Fijians, this includes informing Fijians of the resources available here. With Facebook being the world’s most used social media network, it is important to be aware of simple security checks and privacy check up that a Facebook user can conduct on their own account to make sure that they are being safe online.
